Amputation

In nature, urodele limbs are 'amputated' by predators, and that initiates the regeneration cascade.  In the lab, amputation performed on anesthetized animals starts the process. When the limb is amputated, all tissues are damaged, including the epidermis and dermis of the skin, the muscles, nerves, bones and blood vessels.
