Detroit Metropolitan Airport, Wayne County: " Detroit has recorded its
warmest first half of a year since records began here in 1870. The average
temperature for the first six months of 1998 was 49.0 degrees, which shattered
the old record of 48.3 degrees set in 1921. It is also interesting to note
that four of the top ten years in this category occurred within the past
eleven years. Here is a break down for the first six months of 1998: January:
9.9 deg above normal February: 11.3 deg above normal March: 3.8 deg above
normal April: 3.1 deg above normal May: 7.2 deg above normal June: 1.5
