6 JULY 1998. CHINA: FLOODS
CNN and the Associated Press report that 400 or more have been killed as
an early raining season led to the predicted floods that occur in ENSO
years. The Yangtze River was in flood along 1,000 km of its course, destroying
crops and displacing almost 400,000 people. Four million are working to
shore-up levees.
