Beached emaciated Short-tailed Shearwaters and Thick-billed Murres were found in the Point Hope region of the Chukchi Sea in late August. Reasons for the die-off are unknown as is the magnitude of the event. Representatives of the North Slope Borough Department of Wildlife Management conducted ground counts and collected samples.
