ENSO is given as the cause of warming temperatures and a malaria outbreak in El Valle de la Convencion, north of Cuzco ( I believe this is in the area between Macchu Pichu and Cuzco.--ed). Higher temperatures have allowed increased populations of Anopheles and other mosquitoes.
