Major Natural Resources  Uganda has an abundance of natural resources which include fertile soil, regular rainfall, and large mineral deposits of copper and cobalt. 80% of Uganda's workforce is employed in the agriculture industry. The major crop for export is coffee. other major exports include gold, cotton, tea, corn and fish.
Major Environmental and Conservation Issues  Uganda has recently put into effect the National Wetlands Policy to protect form further drainage of wetlands for agricultural use. the National Forest Action Plan has been initiated in order to slow down deforestation. Uganda still faces problems with overgrazing, soil erosion, and poaching.

Natural Resource Use Information Sources
Fisheries Freshwater fish production 219,814 (000 metric tons), from aquaculture (000 tonnes) 87
Forestry / deforestation 65 (ha/yr) from deforestation. Encroaching agriculture is the most "serious" cause for forest loss and damages; effects from logging and need for fuelwood are rated "moderate". Forestry contributions to the national GDP are about 20% http://www.un.org/esa/agenda21/natlinfo/countr/uganda/natur.htm#forests
Ecotourism Uganda is currently attempting to promote ecotourism because tourism is one of the few products which can be traded in the international marketplace and the added tourism will help intensify conservation efforts. http://www.american.edu/projects/mandala/TED/UGANDA.HTM
