I'm working with the East Coast of Nicaragua and a university called
URACCAN here to help the coastal peoples benefit more from their resources.
While I don't know the extent to which Korean and other contractors are
depleting the shrimp offshore under contracts out of Managua (their law
says the two Eastern Coastal Regions get a portion of such income but it's
being withheld), the small coastal fisherman have more shrimp seasonally
than they can utilize (Why do I not mind that problem?). Anyway, I would
like to see your study include low tech ways for fishing communities to
preserve the shrimp catch for resale.Any immediate thoughts on covering
this? on including learners from that region? Thank you much, Bill Thompson

I was suggesting that the URACCAN university in Bluefields Nicaragua should tell about the region and agreed that one of your students should include the area in your work. Your student can get in touch with me if you want and I'll be sure the ties are made to needed contacts. Bill Thompson.

I would be interested in any information and or opinions that you could provide as to the potential for sustainable shrimp farming in the coastal waters of Latin America, with particular emphasis on the country of Nicaragua. Fred May, Toronto, Canada enigmaz@tcn.net
